Settings
Five sections down the left rail: General, Catalog audit, Users and roles, Support, Plan. The section you are on is in the page's address, so a support answer can link straight at it.
General
Measurement unit
Millimetres or inches. Label sizes, calibration offsets and the editor's rulers are shown in this unit everywhere. It changes only how numbers are displayed — nothing about a saved template or a saved printer changes when you switch.
Default copies per line
Zero by default, and that is deliberate. Zero means a new print job starts with nothing to print until you say how many. Shopify's own app shipped a non-zero default and merchants printed whole rolls by accident.
If your shop always prints one of everything, set it to 1 and every row on the Print screen starts there instead. Maximum 100.
Language
The picker offers English, Deutsch, Français, Español, Italiano and Nederlands. Every interface message has a translation entry; translation quality is reviewed separately from that structural check. The setting also controls how dates and numbers are formatted on the printed label.
Barcodes & SKUs
The settings that decide how codes are issued. The work itself — numbering rules, issuing in bulk, importing, aliases, export — is on the Barcodes & SKUs screen, and there is a link to it here.
Issue automatically
What a brand-new product or variant gets when it arrives from the admin, an import or another app: nothing, a barcode, a SKU, or both. Off by default, and only empty fields are ever touched. It needs a numbering rule to exist first.
Three settings underneath widen it, each off until you turn it on: fill a still-empty field when a product is edited, treat 0 and N/A as an empty field, and restrict it to products with (or without) one tag. Full description on Barcodes & SKUs.
Your GS1 company prefix
Your own prefix from GS1, 6 to 12 digits. With it Markio builds valid EAN-13s, check digit included, and says how many numbers the prefix still holds. Without it, issue Code 128 — it needs no registration and scans anywhere.
Catalog audit
(Scheduling is on the Pro plan. The audit report itself is free.)
Run the audit automatically — off, every day, or every week.
Send alerts to — an email address. You are mailed only when the audit finds something it did not find last time, so a shop with a stable set of known problems is not mailed every day about them.
If you stop paying, scheduling switches off and the report stays. Nothing is locked behind the paywall that you would need in order to leave.
See Catalog audit for what the audit actually checks.
Users and roles
(On the Pro plan. On Free, everyone who can open the app has full access.)
Three roles:
| Role | Edit templates | Lock templates | Change settings | Manage users | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Print operator | yes | — | — | — | — |
| Template admin | yes | yes | yes | yes | — |
| Owner | yes | yes | yes | yes | yes |
Print operator is the default and the least dangerous thing to be: someone with a scanner can print all day and cannot renumber the catalog from a screen they legitimately opened to read.
Who becomes Owner. Until the first role is assigned, everyone who can open the app has full access — there is no roster to check against. The FIRST person to be given a role becomes the Owner, and from that moment the roster decides. So assign yourself first, before handing the app to anyone else: whoever is first through that door is the one who can change everybody else's role.
Restrict to one location pins an operator to a single location. They then see only that location in the filters, can only build jobs for it, and cannot reprint a job that was built for another. The restriction is enforced on the server, not only in the picker.
Assigning a role
The form asks for the staff member's Shopify user ID. Open the staff member in Settings → Users in your Shopify admin; the number at the end of that page's address is their ID. Add a name so you recognise them in the table.
There is no picker for this yet — the ID is typed by hand.
Locations appear in the picker once your catalog has been indexed.
Support
Copy diagnostic report puts a text block on your clipboard describing your setup: shop, plan, printer name and model, channel, resolution, calibration offsets, label stock and size, template name and element count, the state of the catalog index, and the last few warnings. Secrets are stripped out before it is assembled.
Send it with your first message and we usually do not have to ask anything back. Email support answers within one business day, Monday to Friday.
If the clipboard is refused — some embedded contexts block it — the full report is in the read-only box underneath; select it and copy it by hand.
For a problem with printing specifically, use the print tab's own Something printed wrong? report instead. It captures the same things plus whether the browser allowed local network access, which is what settles most direct-channel tickets.
Plan
Shows which plan you are on and what Pro adds. Pro is $9.99 a month, or $99.90 a year.
Markio never charges per label. Printing is unlimited on every plan.
See plans opens Shopify's own pricing page at the top level of the browser, outside the embedded app. Shopify runs that page, the charge and the proration — Markio only sends you there, and reads back which plan you are on.
For the full list of what each plan includes, see the overview.
Troubleshooting
The settings I saved did not stick
Each section saves on its own button. Pressing Save in General does not save the audit fields, and vice versa.
I cannot change anything
Your role is Print operator, which cannot change settings. Ask an owner or a template admin.
The roles form is greyed out
Roles are on the Pro plan. On Free there is nothing to configure — everyone who can open Markio has full access.
The location picker is empty
Locations arrive with the catalog index. If your shop was just installed, wait for the index to finish; if it stays empty, send us the diagnostic report.
I changed my language and some text stayed in English
Reload the app once. If the text is still English, send a screenshot and the selected language to support; it is a missing or stale translation, not an expected limitation.
